The Day School
Since
January 2000, the full day school program has offered a specialized,
educational curriculum for students, ages 6-15, with moderate
to severe learning disabilities of average to above average
intelligence. Under the direction of Dr. Pamela Adelman, Executive
Director, and a faculty of learning disability specialists,
regular education teachers and artists, each student has access
to:
- A comprehensive learning plan that links
specific diagnostic information, specialized instruction,
modified curricula and appropriate related services (e.g.,
counseling, speech therapy);
- Intensive, one-to-one assistance using state-of-the-art
remedial materials and methods to address specific learning
difficulties;
- Regular education teachers and professional
artists co-teaching with learning disabilities specialists;
- Appropriate modification of each student's
regular education curricula.
Educational Outcomes
HPDS students will develop:
- A positive attitude towards school
and an enthusiasm for learning;
- Self-understanding of their learning strengths
and areas for improvement;
- Effective strategies for managing new and
challenging situations;
- Academic and social skills necessary
for a successful transition back
to their home school.
Intensive Tutoring
Program
Facilitated by the learning disability specialists,
this program offers:
- Individualized tutoring to assist students
in meeting the academic requirements of their school;
- Diagnostic teaching that will provide students
and their families with immediate access to specialized
educational assistance and understanding of the student's
learning strengths and areas for improvement;
- Identification of students who may need
the services of the full day program.
Summer Reading, Language
Arts, Math, & Afternoon Programs
The
Hyde Park Day School offers intensive multi-sensory reading,
language arts, and math programs for students with learning
disabilities, in 2nd through 8th grades.
Students enroll in either or both the math and reading programs.
Reading and Math Programs
June 23 - August 1, 2008 (no school July 4th)
Math Program: 8:15 AM - 9:20 AM
Reading/Language Arts Program: 9:20 AM - 12:30 PM
Cost
Math Program $1,000
Reading/Language Arts Program $2,500
Individualized Services
Facilitated by the HPDS specialists, tutoring,
speech/language pathology, occupational therapy, and art therapy
will be offered. Scheduling arrangements will be made on an
individual basis.

Summer Program Information
Students participating in the Chicago Campus
Summer Reading Program may eat lunch at 12:30 PM at the Lab
Schools and participate in the summer camp or classes beginning
at 1:00 PM. Faculty or staff at the HPDS will escort students
across the Midway to the Lab Schools' cafeteria. Students
must register separately for the Lab Schools' camp or courses.
