The Leslie Shankman School Corporation

Message from the President

The Hyde Park Day Schools are operational units of the Leslie Shankman School Corporation, an Illinois tax exempt nonprofit corporation. The "School Corporation" provides operational support to the Hyde Park Day Schools, while the HPDS Executive Director, Dr. Pamela Adelman, reports to the school corporation's Board of Directors.

The Leslie Shankman School Corporation and its parent organization, the Foundation for Emotionally Disturbed Children, represent over fifty years of dedication and commitment to children in the Chicago area with special educational and emotional needs. With the foundation holding and managing endowments and the school corporation providing operational assistance, both of these organizations have demonstrated through their actions, the long-term commitment necessary to ensure the success of educational programs for children in need.

Members of the Shankman family have been important contributors to the Foundation Board for many years and are currently involved with the long range strategic planning being carried out by the School Corporation exploring ways to better serve the special education needs of children in the Chicago area.

Along with support and encouragement from the University of Chicago, the Foundation, School Corporation, and their respective Boards of Directors have provided much needed educational opportunities for students with emotional behavioral disorders (The Sonia Shankman Orthogenic School at the University of Chicago), and most recently, for students with moderate to severe learning disabilities (The Hyde Park Day Schools). Their efforts on behalf of children in need continue to bear fruit, guiding many young people to productive and satisfying lives.
